An adult male polar bear may reach more than 10 feet tall when standing on their hind legs. This is almost doubled the average height of an American man (5 feet 9 inches). A female polar bear can be two to three times smaller than males. Females are generally 6-8 feet tall.
A male adult can weight up to 1,500 pounds while a female adult weighs up to 1,000 pounds.
At birth, polar bear cubs are about 30 cm in length. 30 cm is equivalent to a size 12 men’s shoe. Male cubs are usually slightly bigger than female cubs.
Polar bear babies are born at around 2 pounds. This is similar to the weight of a pineapple. Before the babies leave their den, they can gain over 30 pounds. A cub needs to put on 100 times its birthweight by the time they are ready to survive on their own at around two and a half years.
